The BOIA, a group of adventure activity professionals, is developing a document for outdoor activity providers to adopt.

The aim is to work in the outdoors in partnership with the various consultees, to develop a sustainable industry and to set a standard of provision that is of the highest quality.

STAGE 1
To consult the relevant community action groups, community councils, the National Park Authority, the National Trust, relevant landowners, Forest Enterprise, County Councils, the Countryside Council for Wales, the NFU, the Farmers Union of Wales and other interested parties.

STAGE 2
To respond to the consultees with a list of sites currently being used and separated into the three following categories. This list will require general acceptance by the consultees before adoption as standard practice.

ACCEPTABLE SITES
SENSITIVE SITES (only to be used within detailed guidelines)
UNACCEPTABLE SITES

STAGE 3
Site specific activity guidelines.

STAGE 4
Client care. Consultee the WTB

STAGE 5
Promotion of the scheme to activity providers. A listing of those who adhere to the scheme to be made available to all consultees, all tourism agencies and locally and nationally through whatever medium is appropriate or available.

STAGE 6RESULTS OF STAGE 1 COMMUNITY SURVEY A full review every three years. The document will be open to alteration at any time and we will welcome continued correspondence with the consultees.

There was a general feeling that groups were many, their origin was unknown and that they had their fun and went away without benefiting the community or environment. Areas of concern were environmental damage and nuisance to residents. Overall the survey was welcomed and alongside the local knowledge of BOIA members will form the backbone of the BOIA policy document.

BOIA ACTION TO 1999 COMMUNITY, ENVIRONMENTAL GROUP AND STATUTORY AGENCY SURVEY

GENERAL ACTION
Adopt Pembrokeshire Outdoor Charter and start to draw up site specific guidelines

HILL WALKING
Re the Begwns. inform the community council that members are not responsible for the noise etc ask them to contact local centres to pursue the matter.

CAVING
Suggest that members make more use of Eglwys Faen as Porth yr Ogof becomes more manic. Suggest that centres liase re their visits to Porth yr Ogof at busy times to avoid cave congestion

CANOEING
Generally have more consideration when parking vehicles at all sites, when unloading canoes and when changing.

GORGE WALKING
Suggest that members do not use Blaen y Glyn at all for group use except for the tunnels and that in the Nedd, Mellte and Hepste there will be no further tyroleans, postmans walks, climbs or abseils and that where there is not a public footpath and there is river bank erosion groups keep to the water

Suggest further detailed discussion of use of these sensitive river systems. Look into stabilising some deteriorating eroding paths in the Sychrydd. Members are not to use Pwll Yr Wrach or other smaller systems until discussion has taken place. Discuss new bolts in the Nedd

MOUNTAIN BIKING
Canal towpath from Brynich Lock towards Talybont is unsuitable for riding
Contact Groundwork Trust re better singing of the Taff Trail, possibility of setting up sign monitors
Produce an official BOIA card or get similar from BBNP / NT / CCW etc to show when confronting cyclists / off road motorcyclists on the hill

PONY TREKKING
Invite trekking centres to join the association. Apply pressure for reinstatement of severely damaged bridleways. Look at Cefn Cyff and Nant Sere

TALYBONT ON USK
We will find alternative parking near the village at weekends to help ease the congestion and encourage use of the shop and café where possible

LLANGATTOCK
Gently increase use of this area which has suffered from a reduction in tourism due to the access problems but reduce impact by following site guidelines. Be aware of recent spate of break - ins.
